Between Two Rivers

Discover stunning coastal views, ancient monasteries, and vibrant nature on scenic mountain biking routes featuring cultural landmarks and gastronomic delights.

In Ferrolterra, lovers of mountain biking will be delighted to discover culture, nature and gastronomy as they ride through seven routes designed for us to enjoy. In Esmelle, you will find the mountain biking centre offering seven circular routes marked with buoys to indicate the level of difficulty. These routes run along the coast and valleys and lead to places of interest such as Cabo Prior and its crevices, the beaches of Doniños, San Xurxo, Ponzos and Santa Comba, the castle of San Felipe, the mills, the restored ancient lavatories of San Xoan de Esmelle or the sanctuary of Chamorro (16th century). The EDR route (Entre Dúas Rías, ‘between two estuaries’ in English) begins in Mugardos heading towards O Seixo along a coastal path where you will find the Ferrol shipyard and the municipality of Fene. It carries on to the monastery of Santa Catalina (12th century) of great cultural interest, and then climbs to the vantage point of la Bailadora (‘the dancer’), which offers an exceptional panoramic view. In a dizzy descent, it reaches the natural viewpoint of Punta Avarenta with views to the estuary of Ares, A Coruña and Miño. It continues to wind along the coast of Ares and goes deep into Redes through a centenary path surrounded by Atlantic forest trees. It finally arrives back at the starting point in Mugardos. This is a very beautiful route, 54 km in length.
