FERROL RIVER
Despite the fact that it is an intensely humanised area, the Ferrol estuary has a wide variety of bird species. The bottom of the estuary (in the municipalities of Neda, Fene and Mugardos) offers the most interesting observation points. In the Maniños inlet, the wintering population of between 60 and 100 black-necked grebes, one of the most stable in Galicia, is of special interest; if you are lucky, you can also see the black-necked grebe, which is much rarer in Galicia; great crested grebes are also frequent in the inlet. San Valentín beach, in Fene, is a good place to see waders, such as sandpipers, plovers and sandpipers, as well as other more common species of seabirds and gulls. The best way to reach San Valentín beach is from the Puente de las Pías bridge (FE-14 road), as this enclave is located on its eastern bank. In the case of the inlet of Maniños, we will take the AC-133 road that links the town of Fene with the neighbouring municipality of Mugardos.
