Moeche Castle
The history we must not forget. The main tourist attraction is the Castle, which gives its name to the municipality. However, there are many beautiful places to discover if we explore Moeche. Moeche Castle, located in the parish of San Xurxo, was built in the 14th century and, due to its age and characteristics, is the most emblematic building in this municipality. It has a polygonal floor plan, with the western part defended by a moat dug into the rock. The eastern part houses the entrance, defended by an attached bastion of irregular layout, to increase the defensive capacity and better control the surroundings. It has seven sectors and two postern gates to guard the moat. From the bastion, passing through the square keep, one of the best-preserved sections, where the battlements that crowned it can still be seen, we access the parade ground, which opens onto the four rooms that make up the Castle. In one of them, a stone spiral staircase remains, providing access to the engine room. It is built with thick masonry walls, paved with gravel and grass. Inside, a vaulted ceiling still remains in one of the rooms, and outside, two coats of arms and small windows with semicircular arches.
