Esmelle Mills Route
In Ferrolterra, lovers of mountain biking will be delighted to discover culture, nature and gastronomy as they ride through seven routes designed for us to enjoy. In Esmelle, you will find the mountain biking centre offering seven circular routes marked with buoys to indicate the level of difficulty. These routes run along the coast and valleys and lead to places of interest such as Cabo Prior and its crevices, the beaches of Doniños, San Xurxo, Ponzos and Santa Comba, the castle of San Felipe, the mills, the restored ancient lavatories of San Xoan de Esmelle or the sanctuary of Chamorro (16th century). With four small rivers running through the Esmelle valley, mills played an important role in times past for milling grain and making flour that could be made of rye or wheat. Along this route we can find up to 22 of these mills, in addition to fountains and old laundries. It is a route of less than 10 km and without great unevenness, which runs through asphalt and dirt tracks, it can be done both on foot and by mountain bike.
