Cape Prior
In Ferrolterra, lovers of mountain biking will be delighted to discover culture, nature and gastronomy as they ride through seven routes designed for us to enjoy. In Esmelle, you will find the mountain biking centre offering seven circular routes marked with buoys to indicate the level of difficulty. These routes run along the coast and valleys and lead to places of interest such as Cabo Prior and its crevices, the beaches of Doniños, San Xurxo, Ponzos and Santa Comba, the castle of San Felipe, the mills, the restored ancient lavatories of San Xoan de Esmelle or the sanctuary of Chamorro (16th century). On this route we will pass through natural landscapes such as the San Xurxo, Santa Comba or Ponzos beaches and their corresponding dune systems and we will enjoy the impressive views of Mount Pena Molexa. But perhaps the most notable, is Cape Prior itself, one of the most important defensive enclaves in Spain, which is why we will pass near several abandoned batteries, where the gigantic artillery guns were located. Its lighthouse will also be a must stop, from where you can admire the Ártabra coast in all its splendor. TO CONSIDER The most notable thing is the climb to Mount Pena Molexa, where we will have to progressively overcome 300 meters of altitude, and then descend through moderately technical terrain and unevenness that make this route a demanding route.
