PROTESTANT CEMETERY

PROTESTANT CEMETERY

This unique cemetery features an artistic doorway and a poignant history, including its role during the Civil War, making it a compelling site for visitors.

[1918] It was born on the initiative of the evangelist action in Ares, which had begun its first preaching in 1916, when the cemetery was inaugurated with the money raised by the evangelist colony of Ares and by emigrants in Cuba, in view of the refusal to authorise burials of heretics in the parish cemetery. It was separated by a wall from the Catholic cemetery. During the Civil War, the walls of the cemetery were used for firing squads and many of the dead were buried in mass graves. From an architectural point of view, an artistic doorway is particularly noteworthy.
